Student Minister Application

Thank you for your interest in serving as a Student Minister for the 2024-2025 academic year. Please read the following directions carefully.

All applications are due by midnight on April 1, 2024.

Please note that, according to the constitution, “Candidates for office shall stand for office, but not campaign for office. The Executive Committee alone will represent the candidates and inform the membership of their qualifications. If members of the Executive Committee are standing for office, they will recuse themselves of any representation of candidates or any deliberations regarding said representation.”

There are four (4) officers (comprising the Executive Committee) of our student organization:

OFFICERS

  • University liaison - renew UGA Student Org. status. Register for relevant UGA hosted events (involvement fair tabling, Dawg Day of Service, etc)

    Moderator of Student Minister meetings: with campus minister, compose meeting agendas, and facilitate meeting discussion and votes in a timely, respectful, and just manner.

  • Assist President in duties as assigned. Fill in for President in his/her/their absence.

  • Lead StuMin discussion on allocation of StuMin Discretionary Fund.

    Draft, present, and manage StuMin Fund budget.

    With Executive Campus Minister, oversee individual StuMin lines in the program budget.

  • StuMin Communications Star!

    Keep meeting notes during monthly StuMin meetings (especially records of attendance and any votes taken).

    Send monthly reminders of stated meeting times and dates, including attachment of notes from the previous meeting, and agenda for the coming meeting, provided by Student President or Vice President.

STUDENT MINISTERS

  • MEETINGS: Work with Campus Minister to plan and set agendas for bi-weekly Wednesday meetings

    SOCIAL MEDIA: Keep up with CQ Instagram and share info regularly

    COMMUNITY: Table at Pride events on campus and around Athens (i.e. Athens Pride) for CQ/PSC

  • COMMUNITY NIGHTS: Plan and run weekly Community Nights at the PSC on Sunday evenings, including Community Night Kickoff during Welcome Week

    Help plan additional community events during the year

    RETREATS: Help Campus Ministers in planning Fall Retreat and Montreat College Conference (attendance strongly encouraged but not required)

  • NEW STUDENT POINT OF CONTACT: ensure that all new students have a primary point of contact within the ministry. Check in with those contacts to make sure new students are being invited to events.

    TABLING: Maintain (and improve or suggest improvements of) outreach/promotional materials. Ensure all tabling opportunities are adequately covered by student volunteers (except CQ, which will be covered by CQ StuMin). Provide guidance on outreach strategy to tabling volunteers.

    SOCIAL MEDIA: Ensure that PSC events are promoted online in a timely, appropriate, and functional manner (this person should not create all graphics, or even post them, but should be aware of upcoming events and maintain a posting calendar to be communicated with the appropriate StuMin.

  • COURT WATCH: Connect with John Vodicka to familiarize yourself with Athens Court Watch. Organize group participation court watching once a month and recruit interested students to attend. Report back to Student Ministers about what is going on in our city.

    SERVICE: Recruit volunteers for MLK Day of Service on MLK Day in January; Organize a semesterly or yearly service project with a local Athens organization

    INTERFAITH: Serve as a PSC liaison to interfaith events (i.e. Interfaith Shabbat @ Hillel)

    FOOD PANTRY: Food Pantry shopping and restocking

    RETREAT: Help campus ministers in planning Spring Pilgrimage (attendance strongly encouraged but not required)

  • WELCOME: Serve as primary greeter (or StuMin volunteer coordinator) for folks walking into the building, especially on Tuesday nights.
    Ensure name tags and sharpies are stocked in each entryway (courtyard & chapel).

    MEALS:
    TUESDAY:
    Make pitchers of lemonade, sweet and unsweet tea (before 6pm)
    Restock mini-fridge with canned drinks (before 6pm).
    Recruit volunteers to help clean kitchen & dishes (during dinner).

    Depending on availability:
    Make communion bread (before 4pm).
    Help out with volunteers in the kitchen (5-7pm).

    Alert Campus Minister when supplies are low (bread mix, tea, lemonade, canned bevs, nametags, etc.)

  • As Sustainability Student Minister your duties will include:

    Maintain PSC Community Garden

    Purchase seeds and supplies needed to maintain the garden

    Recruit volunteers to help plant, harvest, maintain and open/close the garden for the season

    Facilitate making the PSC a sustainable ministry

    Drop off hard-to-recycle materials to CHaRM once a month

    Maintain compost system at PSC

    Plan an outdoor activity

    Once a semester, organize a group activity outside- i.e. hiking, kayaking, etc.

  • VOLUNTEERS: Recruit student volunteers for Tuesday night worship (2 Liturgists and 2 communion servers).

    COMMUNION: Prepare communion elements—responsibilities includes (1) baking bread on Tuesdays, anytime before 2pm, (2) filling wine and juice chalices, and (3) arranging elements on communion table before 7:45pm.

    OFFERING: Count and record offering (if applicable).

  • Tuesday Worship: Recruit volunteers to help with running slides during worship

    Build Pro-Presenter presentations for Tuesday worship and additional services as needed.

    Learn BASICS of (1) sound engineering to be able to operate sound board for Tuesday worship, and train other student volunteers, (2) video settings & switching for livestream

    Attend music rehearsals to ensure lyrics are correct, presentation is formatted appropriately, and audio mix is acceptable to musicians and Campus Minister.

    Run (or oversee) Pro-Presenter & Live-Stream during service

    OTHER: As interested, help to create promotional videos for PSC events
